PNR and booking reference
A PNR is the reservation record in an airline system. Its booking reference locates the record, but does not necessarily mean a ticket has been issued.
Electronic ticket
An electronic ticket is the travel document issued after payment and ticketing are confirmed. Its number is usually different from the booking reference.
Booking class
A booking class is a letter or code representing inventory and fare conditions within a cabin, not merely economy, business or first class.
Codeshare flight
On a codeshare, one airline markets the flight under its number while another airline operates the aircraft and service.
Direct versus nonstop flight
A nonstop flight reaches the destination without an intermediate landing. A direct flight may stop en route while retaining the same flight number.
Connecting flight
A connection joins multiple flight segments. Segments on one ticket may be handled differently during disruption than separately purchased tickets.
Schedule change
A schedule change is an airline-initiated update to departure, arrival, flight number or routing before travel.
Flight check-in
Check-in confirms the passenger for the flight and can assign a seat and issue a boarding pass, subject to document checks.
Boarding pass
A boarding pass shows segment, gate and seat details when assigned. It does not replace a passport or entry documents.
Boarding gate
The gate is the departure point for boarding. It can change after a boarding pass is issued, so airport displays and airline updates should be checked.
Cabin baggage
Cabin baggage travels in the passenger cabin, but size, weight and permitted items depend on airline, fare and route.
Checked baggage
Checked baggage is handed over and carried in the hold. The baggage tag and receipt are important for tracking delay or loss.
Baggage allowance
Baggage allowance defines the number, weight or size of bags included in a fare and varies by airline and ticket.
Airport security screening
Security screening checks passengers and baggage under airport and national rules. Wait times and restricted items vary.
Hotel room category
A room category describes room type, occupancy and sometimes view or facilities. Similar names do not guarantee identical specifications across hotels.
Room occupancy
Occupancy sets how many adults and children a room can host and may depend on children’s ages and bedding.
Hotel meal plan
A meal plan states which meals are included, such as room only, breakfast, half board or all inclusive; exact coverage is set by the hotel.
Hotel star rating
Star ratings are local or commercial classification systems, so their meaning is not identical across countries or booking sites.
Hotel check-in and check-out
Check-in and check-out times define room access and departure. Early arrival or late departure requires confirmation.
City or tourism tax
A city tax may be collected separately by the property based on destination, age, nights and hotel class. Check whether it is included.
Hotel cancellation terms
Hotel cancellation terms state the deadline, charge and no-show treatment. The conditions of the specific booking govern.
Holiday package
A holiday package combines two or more travel services, such as flight and hotel. Responsibilities and terms depend on its structure and seller.
Airport transfer
A transfer is transport between an airport and hotel or another point. Check whether it is private or shared and how the meeting works.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance is a separate product covering defined events under its policy. Coverage, exclusions, medical conditions and activities must be checked.
Rental car abroad
A rental car requires checks on licence, driver age, deposit, insurance, fuel policy and border restrictions.
Local transport
Local transport includes rail, buses, taxis and shared services. Availability, payment and operating hours vary by destination.
Travel seasonality
Seasonality describes changes in demand, weather, attraction openings and prices through the year; peak season differs by destination.
Time zone and jet lag
Time zones affect flight times, reservations and communication. Jet lag is the body’s response to rapid travel across zones.
Passport validity
Passport-validity requirements depend on destination, transit countries and passport type; there is no universal six-month rule.
Tourist visa
A visa authorises a request for entry for a defined purpose and period. Need depends on nationality, passport, destination, route and stay.
Transit visa
A transit visa may be required without leaving the airport, depending on nationality, airport, terminal, baggage collection and separate tickets.
Electronic travel authorisation
An electronic travel authorisation is an online pre-travel approval used by some countries. It is not a visa and does not guarantee entry.
Travel with minors
Travel with minors may require passports, parental consent or other documents depending on country, family situation and airline.
Flight delay
A delay is a departure or arrival later than scheduled. Assistance and rights depend on route, operator, duration and applicable law.
Flight cancellation
A cancellation occurs when the scheduled flight is not operated. Alternatives, refund, assistance and possible compensation depend on circumstances and law.
Denied boarding and overbooking
Denied boarding can result from overbooking, operations or documents. A voluntary surrender of a seat differs from involuntary denial.
Missed connection
A missed connection means not reaching the next segment in time. Handling depends on one ticket versus separate tickets, cause and carrier terms.
Delayed baggage
Delayed baggage did not arrive with the passenger but remains traceable. Report it at the airport and keep the file number and receipts.
Lost or damaged baggage
Lost or damaged baggage requires documentation and timely reporting under carrier rules and applicable law. Tags, photos and receipts support a claim.
